"Under the Roots!" was a party for all Uru explorers.

The party started on the Great Tree Shard towad the end of the Until Uru era. When Cyan opened the D'mala Shard we moved there, and when the new Uru Live opened we followed along. A year later Uru Live closed and the Cavern's explorers scattered to many other places.

I ended up in Guild Wars. This game isn't so conducive to parties but the Uru expats have found ways. We've done anniversary parties and Guild Hall warming parties.

On the horizon is the possibility of a new incarnation of Uru Live, something that may allow for Explorer-made Ages. We don't know much. If it happens there will most likely be some kind of party.

The information below about tuning in the music is still valid, no matter where the party is, thanks to Ashtar.

Music: The music is eclectic, provided by Ktahdn. It's broadcast on Shoutcast now, rather than Teamspeak. The Shoutcast server is provided by Ashtar, Patron Saint of Up On the Roof! and is easier to use than Teamspeak. It sounds better, too.

You can use the media player of your choice to listen to the stream. Here are specific instructions for the three major ones, in order by ease of use. The URL you use for all players is:
http://radioktdn.zapto.org:8025

Itunes 7: Pull down the "Advanced" menu. Select "Open Stream" and enter the URL above in the window that opens. Once the stream starts, you can add it to your playlists. Itunes will display song information as it come through the stream.

Winamp: Pull down the "File" menu. If you don't see a "File" menu, choose a different skin because not all skins have the full menus. Select "Open URL" and type the URL above. It should be added automatically to your list of streams. Song information will be displayed.

Windows Media Player: Pull down the "File" menu, and select "Open URL." Type the URL above in the little window and hit Enter. You won't see song information, and I don't know if you can have WMP remember the location.

A Note on the URL:
If you enter the URL into your Web browser you will see a page that shows the status of the Shoutcast server. Along the top of that page are buttons for various purposes. One of them is "Listen." Click on that to run your default media player. You can also see a list of songs that have been played, along with the current song.

We're now featured on beyonduru.com. Easy to use and remember. Go to beyonduru and click on the Radio KTDN button from the list on the left. This will open your media player and start the stream.

Wear what you want. Comfortable dancing clothes are good because you'll be jumping around. Come on down to our new location and join us!

I don't have a video of a Roots! party yet, but if someone makes one I'll be happy to post it. Until that happy day arrives, enjoy this one. Made by Jimbo (of Skydiver fame) during Ktahdn's set on the Day of Dancing, it gives you an idea of what goes on at one of these parties. Be sure to turn your sound up!
